We’ve been working with Léo Henao for many years in his role as Director of Coffee at Pergamino, our Colombian sourcing partner. Léo is warm, passionate and deeply knowledgeable; he is an expert in agronomy with a specialisation in coffee fermentation. He is also deeply community-focused, and plays a special and supportive role for many of the producers he works with via Pergamino.
With this level of dedication and expertise, it is perhaps no surprise that Léo has long held an interest in becoming a coffee producer himself. In 2020, he established Los Palomos farm in the Urrao area, and we were lucky enough to offer his outstanding coffee for a few years. Unfortunately, Léo then had to make the difficult decision to sell the farm, as internal conflict in Colombia was making the area unsafe and difficult to access.
Last year, Léo acquired a new farm in the Santa Barbara region and named it El Jardín (meaning ‘the garden’ in Spanish). He sees the farm as a place where he can continue experimenting with fermentation, and trial several different coffee varieties. He plans to share his learnings with Pergamino’s network of coffee growers.
This Chiroso-variety lot from Léo’s new farm is abundantly floral with beautiful fruit notes in the cup. We’re thrilled to have this special coffee on offer, and we hope you enjoy!
