This bright and juicy coffee was processed at Kii, a world-renowned washing station (or factory) located in Kirinyaga County in Kenya’s central highlands. The factory takes its name from the nearby Kii River, which forms a natural boundary between Kirinyaga and Embu counties, in a region that is celebrated for producing some of Kenya’s most expressive coffees.
Cherries delivered to Kii are harvested by small holder members of the Rungeto Farmers’ Cooperative Society in the verdant surrounding hills and valleys, and processed using fresh, clean water from the river. Combined with careful practices at the factory, this environment produces coffees of remarkable clarity and distinction, earning Kii a well-deserved reputation for quality. This is the first time we have purchased coffee from Kii. During our most recent trip to Kenya we tasted hundreds of coffees, and this was one of our favourites. We love its sweetness and vibrancy, and deep complexity of flavour in the cup.
