The Pérez family has been working in coffee for five generations. La Ponderosa, their 42-hectare farm, is expertly run by Wilfrido Pérez and his son Hernán. The family is committed to producing the very best coffee possible using the most sustainable methods available. They are also passionate about making sure their team and local community are cared for and well supported.
The Huehuetenango region produces some of the most complex and celebrated coffees in Guatemala, partly due to its high altitudes, and the dry, hot winds that protect the region and its coffee trees from frost. Coffees from this area often perform well in the Cup of Excellence competition, including the Pérez family’s coffee, which won an impressive second place in 2018.
At harvest time, the farm employs 100 people from nearby villages to hand pick the ripest cherries. The coffee is then carefully wash-processed and sun-dried at the family’s mill.
This is the second year in a row we’ve offered La Ponderosa at Market Lane. Its bright and juicy flavours and long finish blew us away last year, and we’re so happy to have it on
