This coffee has a vibrant sweetness with notes of pineapple and blackcurrant.

This season, we’re excited to share a new addition to our filter line-up: La Unión from Guatemala. This coffee was grown in the lush, verdant hills that surround the town of San Pedro Necta in the Huehuetenango department. This fertile area is home to many small-scale, independent farmers, who grow coffee as their primary source of income.

At 21 hectares, La Unión farm is larger than most properties in the area. It was established by producer Carlos Rivas in 2017 after a long search for farmland with favourable coffee-growing conditions: a temperate microclimate, moderate rainfall, and an average elevation of 1750 metres, which is ideal for growing coffee in Huehuetenango.

Today, 19 hectares of the farm are planted with coffee trees of 22 different varieties. Carlos decided to plant 40% of the estate with unique varieties that have great potential for quality, while the other 60% is planted with high-yielding varieties to increase productivity.

This beautiful microlot is a Pacamara variety coffee. We selected it off the cupping (tasting) table for its incredible flavours and cup quality. When cultivated carefully at the right elevation and in the right microclimate, Pacamara coffees can be absolutely spectacular, and that is certainly true of this coffee – it’s complex and fruit-forward with a crisp acidity and a vibrant sweetness.
