Mutura is a one-hectare farm owned by producer Jane Njeri Njiru. Jane and her husband purchased the small property in Embu County 35 years ago; her husband has sadly since passed and Jane now runs Mutura with the help of farm manager, Ernest Mathugu.

Jane’s 6000 coffee trees benefit from Embu’s rich volcanic soil and cool climate. She chooses to process her coffee on-site at a small wet mill, rather than selling her cherries to a local cooperative. This gives her control over every stage of production, and helps ensure the full quality potential of her crop is achieved.

Processing coffee on a small scale requires a significant investment in infrastructure and staff. Jane’s foresight and commitment have paid off, however, as Mutura now produces exceptionally bright and juicy coffees like this one, which fetch higher prices and help secure a more sustainable income for Jane, Ernest and the farm team.
