At Market Lane, we’re passionate believers in, and advocates for, Rwandan coffee. Firstly, because we’ve seen the way that specialty coffee has transformed the lives of farming communities in rural Rwanda. And secondly, because Rwandan coffee tastes so delicious, with sweet, complex flavours in the cup.
This organic lot was produced by the Dukunde Kawa Cooperative. It was grown by small-scale farmer-members, who delivered their cherries to the co-op’s Mbilima washing station. The coffee was then wash processed by the Mbilima team under the guidance of long-time manager Jean Bosco Habimana.
This microlot is made up of peaberry beans. While a coffee cherry usually develops with two flat-sided seeds inside, it will occasionally produce a single round seed, known as a peaberry. As is typical of Rwandan peaberry lots, these are small beans with a big flavour! In the cup, Mbilima has a sparkling acidity and it’s bursting with vibrant fruit and floral notes.
