This coffee tastes like sweet strawberry and apricot with a dark chocolate finish

This Maragogype-variety microlot was produced by the Anzueto family on Calahute farm, nestled in the green hills of San Pedro Necta, Guatemala. The family has been farming coffee here since 1952 and, today, the farm is managed by third-generation producer Alfonso Anzueto. 30 years ago, Alfonso’s father planted a small plot dedicated to Maragogype. This variety is a natural mutation of Typica and was first discovered in Bahia, Brazil in 1870. It’s famous for its large bean size and distinct, vibrant flavour profile.

We’ve been offering coffee from Calahute every year since 2021, but this is the first time we’ve had the opportunity to taste and buy this unique variety from the family. We love the floral and winey character of this coffee, and its overall sweetness and balance.

Calahute is owned by the Anzueto family and run by third-generation producer, Alfonso Anzueto.

The coffee is wash-processed at the farm’s wet mill.

It is then carefully sun-dried on the family's patios, surrounded by the lush, verdant hills of San Pedro Necta.
