About this coffee
This sweet and vibrant coffee was produced by Rolando Janamejoy on his three-hectare farm in the town of Aponte in Colombia’s south-west. Nestled among steep, rugged mountains, Aponte experiences a cool climate and high winds year-round. The soil here is exceptionally fertile, thanks to the nutrient-rich ash spread by the nearby Galeras volcano.
Coffee is the main source of income for Rolando and his family. He runs the farm with the help of his son, Wilson, who balances his farmwork with his university studies. At harvest time, the duo pick their coffee cherries when perfectly ripe. They processed this lot using the honey method: the coffee cherries were put through a pulper, removing the skin but leaving some of the fruit pulp still intact. The coffee was then carefully dried on raised beds.
Aponte’s unique microclimate is well-suited to the honey method, and local producers have become experts at processing this way – resulting in beautifully clean, sweet and fragrant coffees like this one.
