This beautiful coffee comes from Shakisso, in Ethiopia’s Guji zone. Guji is located in the southern part of Oromia and takes its name from the Oromo people, a community with a long, proud history in coffee cultivation. The Oromo are widely considered among the first to grow coffee in Ethiopia, and the first to recognise its energising effects. In the past decade, Guji has become renowned for the exceptional quality of its coffee. Today, it produces some of the most exciting coffees in Ethiopia, including this Jigesa lot, which we’ve been delighted to feature every year since 2018.
Jigesa is a washing station owned by Testi Coffee, a family business founded by Faysel Yonis. It was the first washing station the family established, and during harvest around 500 small, independent farmers bring their freshly picked cherries here. Through Testi’s Premium Cherry Selection (PCS) program, farmers who deliver only their ripest cherries receive a premium for their extra care and attention. Coffees produced through the PCS program, like this one, showcase the highest quality and the cleanest, most expressive cup profiles from the station and the wider region.
