Producers Antônio and Terenzinha Rigno (pictured) are deeply respected in their community, admired both for their extensive coffee knowledge and for their generous mentorship of other farmers. Their property, São Judas Tadeu, sits just outside the small town of Piatã, and spans 80 hectares, making it one of the area’s largest estates. Despite its size, Antônio never compromises on his commitment to sustainable farming, or his care for the natural forest that covers much of the property.
The Rignos are meticulous producers, recognised countless times for their quality in the prestigious Cup of Excellence competition. They are also a remarkable duo: while Antônio focuses on farming and processing, Terezinha oversees administration and runs their cafe in town, where her pastries are much-loved.
Antônio feels a deep responsibility towards his community. As he told us, with characteristic warmth and humility, “There are no secrets. Here, the people in Piatã are like my family. I want to help them produce great coffee. It’s my duty and my joy”.
