This coffee is well balanced with notes of dried apricot and cocoa.

We’ve been offering beautiful coffees from Bolivian producer Carmela Aduviri since 2017. Carmela has been growing coffee on her three-hectare farm in the remote, mountainous Copacabana settlement for almost 50 years. For much of that time, she sold her coffee on the local market, which meant low prices and little reliability. That all changed over the last decade with her participation in Sol de la Mañana – a program that provides agricultural training to small-scale producers, and connects them with quality-focused roasters.

Through Sol de la Mañana, Carmela renovated her farm, improved her farming practices and increased her yields, thereby establishing a more sustainable, financially viable operation. Her sons, Elvis and Luis, now live nearby and run Carmelita farm. “Coffee has brought our family together,” Carmela told us. “We used to live far apart, but now my sons are at the farm helping me every day. Coffee is a viable crop for us now.”

Through Sol de la Mañana, Carmela learnt how to best plant and nurture a coffee nursery.

At harvest time, Elvis and Luis hand-pick the ripe cherries and deliver them to the mill.
