This coffee has a juicy acidity with notes of blueberry, caramel and mandarin.

Alongside four of her siblings, Lucy Wanjo Ndogo (pictured with brother Morrison and Market Lane co-owner Fleur) oversees the family-owned and operated Rurima Estate, in Kenya’s Embu County. The estate – which includes a coffee farm and wet mill – was initially established by their father, who named it “Rurima” in honour of his own patriarch.

Following their father’s passing, Rurima’s coffee-producing land was parcelled into individual plots, to be farmed independently by Lucy and other family members as part of a collective. Members of the collective deliver their cherry to the estate’s shared wet mill for processing, to be lotted together for final sale.

When asked what she learnt from her father, Lucy answered simply: “Patience, resilience, and hard work.” This ethos is evident in Rurima’s continued focus on quality and sustainable practices. In the cup, Rurima has juicy fruit notes and a bright acidity.
