For more than a decade, Pedro Rodríguez and his children Pedro Pablo and Daniela have worked tirelessly to build the quality of, and market for, Bolivian specialty coffee. In the process, they have helped hundreds of local farmers to recognise and realise the potential of their land and harvests. Initially, the Rodríguez family purchased and processed microlots from small producers. Over time, however, coffee production in Bolivia declined, as many farmers abandoned low-yielding coffee plantations in favour of more lucrative crops. In response to this, the Rodríguez family decided to invest in their own farms. “We had to give an example,” Pedro explained, “showing that it is possible to build a sustainable and profitable coffee culture, and to keep Bolivia on the world’s coffee map.” La Linda was the first farm planted by the family in 2012, and we feel particularly close to it – we were there the year of its first planting, and have been able to watch it grow, and witness how the family have shared their expertise and learnings with the wider community.
