This sweet and juicy coffee was produced by eight small-scale farmers in the town of Buesaco in eastern Nariño. Here, the Juanambú River meanders through lush, verdant hills covered in native vegetation, and coffee is grown at some of the highest elevations in the world.
For a long period in the `80s and `90s, Buesaco was hit hard with violence and civil unrest. It wasn’t until the 2010s that the Colombian government was able to stabilise the region, catalysing the transformation of the town into one of the country’s most well-known and celebrated coffee-growing areas.
Today, specialty coffee plays a central role in Buesaco’s prosperity and the community’s pursuit of a peaceful future. The area’s coffees have performed notably well in the Cup of Excellence competition, which has raised the town’s profile with international roasters, and ultimately led to more sustainable premiums for Buesaco’s incredibly dedicated and quality-focused producers.
