This National Reconciliation Week, the Market Lane team is engaging and participating in a range of activities to learn more about the lands we live on, and to platform and support the work of our partners at Children’s Ground.

As a company, we are passionate about, and committed to, respecting and learning about the lands we live on, standing in solidarity with First Nations people, and actively working to advance reconciliation. As part of this ongoing engagement and commitment, every year we participate in activities and celebrations for National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June). Here’s what we are doing to mark this important week in 2025.

We’ve launched a special-edition Tote Bag

At Market Lane, we’ve been walking with Children’s Ground since 2020, and we feel inspired by, and deeply connected to, their goal of building a brighter future for the next generation of First Nations children.This Reconciliation Week, we’re releasing a special edition Tote Bag, with 100% of proceeds donated to this wonderful First Nations-led organisation. 

We're 'Wearing it Yellow' in our shops and roastery

Children’s Ground’s ‘Wear it Yellow’ campaign runs every year during National Reconciliation Week. It’s an opportunity to amplify the organisation’s message and to raise funds to support their work. Children’s Ground chose yellow for this campaign as it’s the colour at the centre of the Aboriginal flag, representing the sun. Yellow is also the colour of the Children’s Ground logo, which they describe as “fresh, energetic and hopeful”.

Every year, we participate in the ‘Wear It Yellow’ campaign by inviting our roastery and office team members to dress in yellow during Reconciliation Week. This year, many of our front-of-house team members are participating, too, by wearing a Children’s Ground pin on their aprons in our shops.

We took a guided tour to Dights Falls

This week, members of our team participated in a guided walk,hosted and led by the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation. Our guide, Joe, led us along the banks of Birrarung (Yarra River) to Dights Falls, teaching us about the plants and animalswe see onWurundjeri land, and the devastating impact of colonisation on this special place.

We attended a fascinating webinar

Our team gathered at our roastery to watch an honest and thought-provoking lunchtime webinarconversation hosted by Children’s Ground. Gamilaroi woman, social entrepreneur and strategic advocate, Sorrell Ashby, and corporate leader Michael Da Gama Pintospoke with candour and great insight about how Australian workplaces can apply this year’s Reconciliation Week theme – ‘Bridging Now to Next’ – to their own reconciliation work, and actively help to build a more united, respectful and equitable nation.
