Your team members come from all over the world, and bring all kinds of unique, creative skillsets to your studio. How do you approach building and fostering a diverse and dynamic team?
Our team is a mix of designers and makers from all over, a diversity that brings fresh perspectives to what we do. While we do have a number of industrial designers, we also have jewellers, interior designers, artists, and even a linguist – each adding something unique to the way we think about materials, form, and light. Collaboration is at the core of our process, and having such a broad range of skills means we’re always approaching design in new and unexpected ways.
Volker Haug’s studio space is both functional and industrial, and elegant and serene. Can you tell us more about envisaging and designing the space?
Our studio is a reflection of how we work – hands-on, experimental, and always evolving. It balances the raw, industrial practicality of a workshop with a sense of calm and refinement. After collaborating with Flack Studio on the Me and You collection and its Milan Design Week exhibition space, we were thrilled when David Flack and the team offered to reimagine our own showroom in the lead-up to the Melbourne launch of the collection late last year. It’s functional and designed to adapt, a working studio, but also a space to pause, observe, and reflect.
