This National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June), the Market Lane team spent time reflecting on what it means to stand in solidarity with First Nations people and participating in activities to support the work of our incredible partners at Children’s Ground.

Since 2020, we’ve been walking with Children’s Ground, a First Nations-led organisation working to support long-term wellbeing for children, families and communities through community-led programs.

Every year, National Reconciliation Week spans two significant dates in Australia’s history: from the 1867 referendum to the High Court’s 1992 Mabo decision. This year’s theme, “All In”, calls for a sustained, collective commitment to reconciliation; it is a reminder that this work cannot solely be the responsibility of First Nations people, who have carried the violent weight of our colonial inheritance for far too long.

Here’s what we did to mark National Reconciliation Week 2026.

We “Wore it Yellow” for Children’s Ground

During Reconciliation Week, Children’s Ground lead the “Wear It Yellow” campaign, raising awareness and funds to support their work. Every year, we participate in the campaign by inviting our roastery and office team members to dress in yellow.

And released a limited-edition Tote Bag!

We also brought back our limited-edition yellow Tote Bag, and were delighted to raise a total of $6,000, all of which will be donated directly to Children’s Ground, for their essential work in communities across the Northern Territory. We are also very lucky to be visiting the Children’s Ground offices in Naarm/Melbourne on the 10th of June, for a truth telling workshop.

We spoke with Evelyn Schaber

We published our interview with Children’s Ground co-chair Evelyn Shaber in the new edition of our Print Journal. It was an honour to speak with Evelyn about her new role with the organisation, the impact of her work, and to discuss the essential, structural changes still needed to support First Nations communities across Australia.

We had important conversations

We gathered at our roastery to watch a thought-provoking lunchtime webinar conversation hosted by Children’s Ground, that explored this year’s theme of “All In”. Kerrupmara Gunditjmara man Travis Lovett was part of the conversation (having just completed the historic, national Walk for Truth), alongside Children’s Ground Co Chairs William Tilmouth and Evelyn Schaber. Kon Karapanagiotidis (OAM and founder of the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre) moderated the conversation, which explored the role that business and individuals can play in showing up for, and alongside, First Nations Peoples – not just during National Reconciliation Week, but all year round. The panel also discussed the government’s current response to First Nations priorities, while Travis shared his experience walking from Naarm to Canberra to call for a national truth telling process and explained why this is so vitally important.
