Our Collins St shop in Melbourne/Naarm’s CBD is designed to be a calm retreat in the middle of the city; somewhere customers can take a break from a busy day of work or shopping, and collect their thoughts over a cup of delicious, freshly brewed coffee. We feel very lucky to have found the perfect person to help create this warm and welcoming environment, and to lead the Collins St shop team with great care, wit and generosity.
Satsuki joined the Market Lane team in early 2023 after several years working in coffee and hospitality in Melbourne and abroad. During the busy morning rush hours at Collins St, she is a blur of tireless activity, dashing in and out from behind the bar to deliver drinks and pastries to coffee lovers in the booths inside and at the outside tables. Despite her speed and efficiency, Satsuki never misses a moment or opportunity to slow down and greet and chat with a regular customer or refill someone’s water glass before they even knew they needed it. It’s this care, warmth, thoughtfulness and close attention to detail that makes Satsuki such a beloved figure at Market Lane, both among her coworkers and her regular customers.
“Satsuki is such a calm and steady presence on the floor,” says Kai from our People & Culture team. “She leads with kindness, clarity, and a real sense of care for her team. She’s thoughtful in how she supports people and always leads by example, which makes her someone others naturally look to and trust. She is a much-loved figure on our team, and is also adored by all her Collins St customers.”
We chatted with the wonderful Satsuki about how she got her start in hospitality, what makes the Collins St shop so special, and how she likes to spend her days in and around Melbourne when she’s not busy at work.
