As our coffee offering changes seasonally to ensure you’re brewing the freshest beans, our bundle line-up changes accordingly. In this bundle, you’ll get one 250g bag of Santa Isabel from Guatemala and one 250g bag of Werka from Ethiopia.
Santa Isabel Estate is a 300-hectare farm in Guatemala’s Alta Verapaz department. The estate is run by fifth-generation producer Luis ‘Wicho’ Valdés, whose coffee we’ve been offering since 2011. Wicho continuously invests in farm improvements to further enhance coffee quality, and to better care for and preserve the area’s natural environment. In recent years, through the application of natural micro-organisms to the coffee trees, he has managed to cut out all use of pesticides and most of his fungicide use. This progressive approach has led to healthier, more resilient trees that produce deliciously distinct and wonderfully complex coffees.
Werka was grown by some 750 farmers near the village of Werka in Ethiopia’s West Arsi region. These farmers grow coffee organically on small plots of land alongside food crops like corn, grain and bananas. At harvest time, they deliver their ripe coffee cherries to the Gara Kone washing station, run by our long-time supply partners, Testi Coffee. This lot was then carefully processed using the natural method – the cherries were dried whole, in the sun, with the beans still inside. In the cup, Werka has everything we look for in a naturally processed Ethiopian coffee. It’s sweet and rich, with complex fruit and florals…and it’s utterly delicious!
