Duwancho is a washing station in Ethiopia’s Sidama region, an area known for producing coffees that are distinctive and floral with great character. The station is owned by our Ethiopian supply partners, Testi Coffee, who selected the site for its optimal natural conditions, including its high elevation (2250 metres) and access to fresh, clean water.
During the harvest period, the station collects coffee cherries from some 500 small-scale farmers who live in three kebeles (small villages). Testi separates and processes each kebele’s cherry delivery as a distinct lot, providing extra traceability – a rarity in Ethiopia.
This microlot was grown by ten farmers who live close to the washing station; the relatively small group of contributors adds to its distinct cup quality. Floral and complex with an extra smooth mouthfeel and a sweet finish, this coffee is a fantastic example of the unique and beautiful coffees produced in this celebrated region.
