About this coffee

This delicious coffee was grown by Carmela Aduviri on her three-hectare farm in the remote, mountainous Copacabana settlement in Caranavi, Bolivia. Carmela has worked in coffee for almost 50 years. For most of that time, she sold her coffee on the local market, which meant low prices and little reliability. That all changed with her participation in Sol de la Mañana – a program that aims to create a sustainable Bolivian coffee supply chain by providing agricultural training to small-scale producers, and connecting them with quality-focused roasters like Market Lane.

Through Sol de la Mañana, Carmela renovated her farm, improved her agricultural practices and increased her yields, thereby establishing a more sustainable, financially viable operation. Her sons Elvis and Luis now run Carmelita farm. At harvest time, they carefully hand-pick the coffee cherries and deliver them to the Buena Vista mill to be wash-processed. “Coffee has brought our family together,” Carmela told us. “We used to live far apart, but now my sons are at the farm helping me every day. Coffee is a viable crop for us now.”

Carmelita is a special coffee from a special coffee producer. In the cup, you’ll find notes of guava and peach with a tropical fruit acidity.
