Our classes are run by the same lovely professionals who source, roast, and brew your coffee at Market Lane. Offerings will change throughout the year, so keep an eye out for more dates and classes. Coffee Class - Brew Classes
Making your own coffee at home can be really fun, easy, and satisfying, and it doesn't mean you have to go out and buy yourself a big old espresso machine. Just come in, spend a couple of hours with the Market Lane crew, and learn the basics of several different brewing methods, and the how-to's, why-to's, and pros and cons of each one.
In this hands-on class, we will learn about three brew methods: pour over, aeropress, and plunger. Our team will demonstrate how to control different factors in the process (such as grind, time, and brew ratio) to get the best result in the cup.

Coffee Class - Introduction To Sample Roasting
Ever watched someone roast coffee and wondered what all the sniffing, checking, and standing around looking mesmerised was about?
This class is a great way to learn more about the art of roasting coffee and actually have a go at roasting some yourself! Spend time with Market Lane's expert roasting team, and learn about the basics of heat transfer, the importance of airflow, and the impact of roast level on the final cup. You will get the opportunity to roast on our two barrel Probat sample roaster and take home your roasted goodies! Cupping Classes
Coffee cuppings, or tastings, are a great way to compare coffees side by side, and develop your coffee palate. Typically, we put 6-8 coffees on the table. We taste them blind (meaning that we do not know until the end which coffee is which). The session starts with an assessment of the aroma (both dry and wet), and then the fun bit: the slurping and spitting! The team will guide you through the evaluation, explaining what to look for in the cup and how to assess and score the coffees.Public Cupping Sessions
We hold public cuppings at Market Lane Prahran every Friday and Saturday from 10am to 11am. These sessions are free, and there is no need to book - all you have to do is turn up! We limit these sessions to a max of 5 people, so to avoid disappointment, we recommend you arrive 5-10 minutes beforehand and let the staff know that you'r interested in cupping that day to ensure your place in the session.
Please note the public cupping sessions are limited to six people so if you have a big group of people (i.e. more than 2 of you) we do recommend that you email us to organise an alternative time for a private group cupping.
