Our relationship with producer Ricardo Zelaya at Santa Clara is one of the first relationships we established when we opened Market Lane in 2009. The Zelaya family, however, weren’t newcomers to coffee production, having been farming in Guatemala’s celebrated
Antigua growing region for more than 100 years and across four generations.

In the 14 years we’ve been partnering with Ricardo, he has never wavered in his dedication to quality. Santa Clara is scrupulously well-managed – from the selection of varieties planted to the attention given to plant nutrition and pruning through to the careful supervision of the wet and dry mills, both located on the farm.

This sweet and creamy microlot is a Pacamara variety coffee. Only one of Santa Clara’s 90 hectares is planted out with this variety. As Ricardo explained to us, “Pacamara is not very high-yielding, but the cup quality it produces is very special.”

We’ve been offering beautiful coffees from Ricardo Zelaya since we opened Market Lane.
