This coffee tastes like blackcurrant & dark chocolate with a sweet finish.

Jojo Estate is owned by Joseph Njoroge Njuguna and his wife Irene Wamoro Njoroge, who also manages the farm. Situated in the foothills of the extinct Mt Kenya volcano, the farm’s nutrient-rich soil and the area’s cool climate contribute to the high quality of the coffee produced here.

Irene’s meticulous, hands-on management has been key to Jojo Estate’s success. Progressive and quality-focused, she retired from a successful career in business and now oversees the farm’s
coffee production – from plant propagation and cherry picking through to the processing and
drying of the beans.

This coffee was wash-processed in a small wet mill – or ‘factory’ as they’re called locally – on the farm. On-site processing is unusual for Kenya, and more expensive than central processing, but it gives Irene and Joseph greater oversight and quality control during the whole process. All this care and attentive hard work is evident in the cup – this coffee is beautifully sweet, distinct and complex.

Irene’s hands-on management and meticulous attention to detail is key to Jojo Estate’s success.

This is the first time Market Lane
has offered coffee from Jojo Estate. We love how sweet and distinctive it is in the cup.
