The classic Marimekko poppy print was created in 1964, when Armi Ratia, the company’s founder, announced that Marimekko would never print a floral pattern. “Flowers should only bloom in nature,” she declared. Designer Maija Isola had other ideas, however, and the iconic and joyful Unikko design was born. The print is now an essential part of the company’s classic collection, and this vibrant mug adds colour (and coffee) to any kitchen table or office desk.
Founded in the 1950s, Finnish design house Marimekko has long been famous and beloved for its textiles and homewares. Marimekko’s marriage of functionality with bold, vibrant design has made it an enduring favourite.
