Ngamba – pronounced ‘gamba’ – is a 13-acre farm owned by James Kinyua Kimotho. James inherited the estate from his parents, who established it as a cash-crop farm in the 1960s. He has since invested in the staff and infrastructure needed to greatly improve coffee quality and produce specialty-grade beans.
To help him achieve this, James enlisted the help of William Mugo Wjiru, who manages the farm. William is extremely talented and knowledgeable. He has over 40 years of experience working with coffee, and he is an expert in coffee processing and fermentation.
Like many farms in the region, Ngamba used to sell its coffee to a local cooperative. Ten years ago, however, James decided to build his own wet mill on-site so he and his team could have full oversight and quality control. It was a major risk and financial investment, but happily the benefits have far outweighed the costs, and Ngamba is now producing exceptionally sweet and clean coffees, like this one.
