Coffees from Ethiopia are some of the most elegant and nuanced in the world, often identifiable by scent alone. “When sourcing beans from Ethiopia, we look for coffees that are distinctive, with strong regional characteristics that shine through in the cup,” says Market Lane co-founder Jason, who selected this lot on a trip to Ethiopia earlier this year.
This coffee was grown by 500 farmers in Ethiopia's Guji area, and wash-processed at the Hadeso washing station. Up until 20 years ago, coffees from Guji were given the broad location classification of Sidama, a huge growing region covering much of central-south Ethiopia. Today, coffees from Guji are classified separately and are recognised for their unique and distinctive cup profiles – which are driven by the area’s high elevations, rich, fertile soil, and exceptional landrace (heirloom) varieties.
Hadeso is a fantastic example of a coffee from the Guji area. It’s beautifully floral with a lovely stone-fruit sweetness in the cup.
