This coffee was grown in Ethiopia’s Guji Zone on a 200-hectare farm owned and run by producer Yodesa Yachisi and his family. Yodesa initially worked in the mining industry, but he moved into agriculture in the early 2000s when he fell in love with coffee and its ability to connect and support communities. He purchased Mormora in 2008.
Coffee at Mormora is grown organically in forest conditions, where the soil is fertile and loamy, and the trees provide natural shade protection. The Yachisi family buys additional coffee from 400 smallholder producers in the area and also offers free training in best farming and processing practices. It is rare for an Ethiopian coffee to be traceable back to a single estate; most come from cooperatives or farmer groups. Mormora has been grown and naturally processed with care by the Yachisi family, and it’s a stunning example of a coffee from this region.
